No. 26 seed Liberty remains within striking distance of advancing to the final round of stroke play following Day 2 of the 2022 NCAA Men’s Golf National Championship.

The Flames enter the third round in 22nd place with a 36-hole total of 33-over par 593 (290-303) following two trips around the Grayhawk Golf Club (par 70, 7,289 yards).

Following the first six holes of play during the afternoon flight, Liberty, who entered the day tied for ninth place, had moved up as high as fifth place on the overall team leaderboard.

But, with the afternoon temperatures approaching 100 degrees and the winds starting to swirl, Liberty started to struggle and slowly fell down the leaderboard throughout the rest of the Saturday afternoon.

Despite the team moving well down the leaderboard, Liberty’s Kieran Vincent continues to challenge for the NCAA individual national title.

The Flames’ Super Senior enters tomorrow’s third round tied for ninth place with a 1-over par 142 (69-72). Vincent himself struggled throughout the day, but he closed with three birdies on his last four holes, including a downhill 12-footer to close out his round at No. 9.

If the Flames fail to advance to the final round of stroke play on Monday, Vincent could still have a chance to win the individual national championship.

The top nine players not on advancing teams will play a final round of stroke play where the individual national champion will be crowned.

The Flames will likely face the heat of the Arizona desert again on Sunday as the Flames will be part of Round 3’s afternoon flight.

Liberty will tee off from the No. 1 tee (par 4, 430 yards) starting at 12:15 p.m. PST along with golfers from No. 24 seed Ohio State and No. 28 seed Georgia Southern.
