Flames' Wilson Named ASUN Player of Week for 2nd Time in Three Weeks

Flames men's tennis sophomore Josh Wilson has been tabbed the ASUN Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, Wednesday by the league office.

Wilson's efforts last week helped Liberty post a 5-2 road victory at Penn State, the Flames' first-ever victory over a Big Ten team. The second-year player has now been named ASUN Player of the Week twice in the last three weeks and three times in his career.

"Josh prepares professionally for each match. He is a resilient competitor and hungry to get better each and every day," stated Liberty Mens' Tennis Head Coach Derek Schwandt.

Wilson won in both doubles and singles in the match against the Nittany Lions. Wilson and his doubles partner, freshman Goncalo Ferreira, defeated nationally-ranked No. 46 Christos Antonopoulos and Christian Lakeoseljac 7-5 on court one. The Flames also won on court three to clinch the doubles point. Wilson and Ferreira lead all Liberty doubles teams with nine wins on the year and share the team lead with three spring doubles triumphs.

In singles, Wilson defeated Penn State's Charl Morgan in straight sets (6-4, 6-3), which put Liberty ahead 2-0 in the match. Wilson is now 5-3 in the No. 2 singles slot, this spring.

The Flames lead all teams in the conference with three ASUN Player of the Week honors through the first seven weeks of the spring season.

Wilson and Liberty (6-3) return home to take on the Elon Phoenix (2-5), Friday at Crosswhite Athletic Club in Lynchburg. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
