    No. 38 Liberty, the No. 7 seed in the regional, kept pace with the top team in the NCAA Stockton Regional during Day 1 of the regional event.

    The Flames finished the day tied for fifth place following a 1-under par round of 287 at The Reserve at Spanos Park (par 72, 7,315 yards). Liberty shares fifth place with No. 4 seed LSU.

    Liberty is attempting to qualify for the NCAA Men’s Golf National Championship for the third year in a row and the fourth time in program history.

    The top five teams from each of the six NCAA Regionals will advance to the 2022 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. (May 27 – June 1).

    Liberty’s under-par opening round was paced by Jonathan Yaun and Isaac Simmons, who each carded a 2-under par round of 70. The two golfers are currently tied for 10th place.

    Liberty returns to the course tomorrow for Round 2 of the Regional where the Flames will be paired with LSU (1-under par 287) and No. 8 seed BYU (4-under par 284). Golfers from these three teams will open play on the No. 10 hole (par 4, 415 yards), starting at 8 a.m. PST.

    Round Recap – Liberty’s Starting Five:

    • Jonathan Yaun – T10 2-under par 70 (70)
    • Isaac Simmons – T10 2-under par 70 (70)
    • Kieran Vincent – T30 even par 72 (72)
    • Austin Duncan – T55 3-over par 75 (75)
    • Austin Barbin – T70 6-over par 78 (78)

    Field Reflections:

    • 3 seed Stanford paced the 14-team field, carding a 10-under par 278 to lead the Regional following Day 1.
    • 1 seed Arizona State is one shot back of Stanford following a 9-under par 279.
    • 12 seed Denver was the surprise team of the day, opening play with a 6-under par 282 to grab third place on the Day 1 leaderboard.
    • The Flames are two shots clear of No. 13 seed Abilene Christian (1-over par 289) and three shots ahead of No. 5 seed Oregon and No. 11 seed UC David (both 2-over par 290).
    • 3 seed Washington and No. 6 sed Nevada are four shots behind the Flames following an opening round 3-over par 291.
    • Four players share the clubhouse individual lead after carding an opening round 4-under par 68 (Stanford’s Barclay Brown and Henry Shimp, Arizona State’s Jose Luis Ballester and USC’s Jackson Rivera).
    • A total of 29 players managed to break par during Day 2 of the Regional.

    Birdies and Bogeys – Liberty Team Notes:

    • The Flames continued their strong play on the par-5 holes and lead the 14-team field after play those holes at a scoring average of 4.55 (-9).
    • Liberty entered the Regional ranked No. 30 in the country in par-5 scoring (4.73)
    • Isaac Simmons currently ranks second in the field in par-3 scoring (2.75 scoring average/-1).
    • Jonathan Yaun is currently tied for third in the field in par-5 scoring (4.25 scoring average/-3).
    • Simmons led the Flames with five birdies on the day, following by four from Yaun.
    • Kieran Vincent closed the day with a birdie at No. 18, his third birdie of the day, to finish Day 1 tied for 30th place following an even par round of 72.
