Flames In 4th Place Heading Into Final Round of Quail Valley Collegiate
The Flames were able to keep pace with the upper half of the field on a low-scoring first day at the 2022 Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational on Sunday.
Liberty enters tomorrow’s final round in fourth place following a score of 23-under par 553 (278-275) after two trips around the Quail Valley Golf Club (par 72, 7,460 yards).
All 16 teams in the field are currently in red figures. Fellow ASUN Conference foe and No. 42 ranked North Florida currently leads the field with a 28-under par 548 (275-273).
The Ospreys hold a slight one-stroke lead over No. 29 Notre Dame’s 27-under par 549 (274-275). One shot behind Notre Dame and three shots clear of Liberty is No. 45 Missouri, who is in third place with a 26-under par 550 (277-273).
A total of 53 players in the 84-man field currently hold under-par scores, including all five of Liberty’s starting five golfers.
Indiana’s Drew Salyers leads the field with a 14-under par 130 (65-65). He holds a two-stroke lead over North Florida’s Nick Gabrelcik, who is in second place with a 12-under par 132 (65-67).
The Flames are paced by Isaac Simmons, who is tied for fourth place with an 8-under par 136 (67-69).
The 16-team field will return to the Quail Valley Golf Club at 8 a.m. Monday morning to begin play in the Michigan State-hosted event’s final round.
