    No. 24 Liberty, fresh off a runner-up finish at the Sea Best Invitational, will return to the “Sunshine State” this weekend for the Gator Invitational presented by VyStar.

    The two-day, 54-hole event will once again be hosted by Florida at its on-campus home course, the Mark Bostick Golf Course (par 70, 6,701 yards) in Gainesville, Fla.

    The course has been Florida’s home golf course since the 1960s and has hosted the Gator Invitational since 1978.

    The tournament’s 14-team field includes nine teams currently ranked inside the top 75 in the country in the latest Golfstat national rankings: Oklahoma State (No. 3), LSU (No. 23), Liberty (No. 24), USF (No. 25), Florida (No. 31), Missouri (No. 42), UCF (No. 59), FGCU (No. 72) and West Virginia (No. 75).

    Play gets underway on Saturday at 7:45 a.m. with a shotgun start (36 holes on Saturday). The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Sunday.

    Tournament Reflections – Previous Showing at the Gator Invitational:  

    • The Flames are no strangers to Florida’s on-campus golf course, having participated in this event the last 10 seasons.
    • Liberty’s best showing at this event took place in 2019 where the Flames finished in third place with a 2-under par 842 (285-277-280).
    • Prior to the 2019 event, Liberty’s best showing in seven previous trips to Gainesville, Fla., were sixth-place finishes in 2012, 2016 and 2018.
    • Last year, the Flames finished in fifth place with a 20-under par 820 (276-269-275), nine shots behind Florida’s winning score of 29-under par 811 (271-275-265).
    • Ervin Chang (69-63-71) and Kieran Vincent (70-66-67) led the Flames, finishing tied for eighth place with a 7-under par 203.

    From the 18th Green – Recapping Liberty’s Last Time Out

    • The Flames opened the spring portion of the 2021-22 schedule with a runner-up finish at the Sea Best Invitational Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
    • Liberty finished the Jacksonville hosted event with a 12-over par 852 (285-284-283) following three trips around the TPC Sawgrass – Dye’s Valley Course.
    • Liberty was in the hunt for the team title with then ranked No. 42 Florida, but the Gators closed the event with a 4-under par 276 to win by six strokes with an overall winning score of 6-over par 846 (287-283-276).
    • The 13-team tournament featured a strong field, including six teams who were ranked inside the latest Golfstat top-50 ranking led by No. 9 Texas A&M, who finished in seventh place.
    • Kieran Vincent paced the Flames and finished tied for second place with a 1-under par 209 (72-70-68).

    Birdies and Bogeys – Liberty Team Notes

    • Following the Sea Best Invitational, Liberty moved up two spots to No. 24 in the first Golfstat national rankings of the spring.
    • The Flames finished their fall season ranked No. 22 in the Golfweek Men’s Golf Team Rankings and No. 24 in the Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches Poll.
    • Liberty finished the fall season with a 288.33 team stroke average, the fourth-best mark in program history.
    • Returning All-American and redshirt senior Kieran Vincent paced Liberty during the fall with a 72.33 stroke average.
    • Liberty had four other players finish the fall season less than one stroke behind Vincent in scoring average: Austin Duncan (72.44), Connor Polender (72.56), Jonathan Yaun 972.89) and Isaac Simmons (73.00).
    • Liberty entered the spring season looking to defend its ASUN Championship with the 2022 conference championship set for April 24-26 at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga.
    • The Flames have advanced to the NCAA Regionals nine of the last 10 regional events and to the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship three times in program history (2012, 2019 and 2021).
