Lizzy Ferguson received her second All-American honor after being named an ILWomen All-American honorable mention selection on Thursday. The senior becomes the first ever Lady Flame to receive the award.
Ferguson continues to stack postseason recognition after receiving recognition as a USA Lacrosse Magazine Division I All-American honorable mention recipient on May 9. Before this selection, no Liberty player had ever been named to a single All-American team.
The attacker was honored as an ASUN All-Conference first team member and an ASUN All-Tournament team honoree this spring. The Fort Washington, Pa., native secured the Liberty program record for draw controls in a season with 182, ranked third nationally with 9.58 draws won per game and earned the Liberty program record winning 288 draw controls.
Ferguson’s standout season also saw the attacker tally 33 goals (third on team) to go along with 11 assists (fifth on squad) for 44 points (third on team) in 19 games (all starts). The fifth-year senior finished the spring with 29 ground balls (third on team) and 23 caused turnovers (tied for second on team) for a Liberty squad which is in the top three nationally in both caused turnovers per game (No. 3, 12.47) and ground balls per game (No. 3, 19.58). Ferguson’s career year saw her notch career bests in draw controls, goals, assists, points, ground balls and caused turnovers.
Ferguson secured two ASUN Defensive Player of the Week honors (March 21 and 28) and one ASUN Player of the Week accolade (Feb. 28) over the course of the regular season. The senior captain guided Liberty (12-7) to a perfect 7-0 ASUN record and its first outright regular season crown.
