Doan Voted ASUN Women's XC Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Calli Doan has been voted Liberty's first ASUN Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Additionally, she was joined on the ASUN All-Academic Teams by the quartet of Grace Dwyer, Anna Hostetler, Noel Palmer and Joe Spitzer.
All five Flames made the ASUN Cross Country All-Academic Teams for the first time. Doan, Palmer and Spitzer were previously named to the ASUN Indoor Track & Field All-Academic Teams last week.
Doan, a junior from Apex, N.C., is an exercise science major with a 4.0 GPA. She shared the Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor with Lipscomb's Courtney Brenner. Doan capped off an impressive season with an 85th-place individual finish at Monday's NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. She finished as the runner-up at the ASUN Cross Country Championships for the second straight year and is now a three-time first team All-ASUN performer in cross country. Doan was also a two-time ASUN Women's Runner of the Week this season (Jan. 26 & Feb. 9), claiming the individual title at the season-opening CSU Buccaneer Invitational.
Dwyer, a redshirt senior from Mercerville, N.J., owns a 4.0 GPA as she pursues a master's degree in strategic communications. She graduated from Furman in May 2020 with a bachelor's degree in communication studies and history. The first-year Flame came in third overall at the ASUN Cross Country Championships to earn cross country all-conference honors for the fourth time in her collegiate career. She also made her third appearance at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, placing 199th overall.
Hostetler, a junior from Parnell, Iowa, is an English education major with a 4.0 GPA. She placed 14th at the ASUN Cross Country Championships to earn second team All-ASUN accolades. Hostetler's top finish of the season was fourth at the CSU Buccaneer Invitational in a season-best 5K clocking of 17:44.
Palmer, a redshirt junior from Forest, Va., is a biology major with a 4.0 GPA. She stepped up as Liberty's No. 3 runner at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, crossing the finish line in 182nd place. Palmer came in seventh at the ASUN Cross Country Championships, earning her second career first team All-ASUN medal in cross country.
Spitzer, a redshirt sophomore from Versailles, Ohio, is an electrical engineering major with a 3.77 GPA. He placed 28th at the ASUN Cross Country Championships, serving as the No. 6 runner for the runner-up Flames. Spitzer came in 14th at the season-opening Buccaneer Invitational with a season-best 8K clocking of 25:19.
