For the second time this season Liberty’s Darius McGhee has been named the ASUN Player of the Week. The honor comes after McGhee averaged 33 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in Liberty’s wins over North Florida and FGCU.
McGhee was sensational throughout the week, shooting 59.5 percent from the field, 50 percent from three-point range and 100 percent from the free throw line. McGhee started the week, scoring 18 points at home, shooting 50 percent from the field in Liberty’s 71-56 win over North Florida.
McGhee had one of the best performances in program history as the Flames faced FGCU on the road, as McGhee scored 48 points, setting the program record for most points by an individual in a single game. McGhee’s 48 points was the most by a Division I player in a game this season and it was the most points by a Division I player in a single game since Dec. 13, 2019 (Mason Peatling, 54 points).
This is the fourth time in McGhee’s career that he has been named ASUN Player of the Week. McGhee and the Flames will return to action on Jan. 18 when the Flames host Jacksonville.
