    BIG EAST Release

Martu Cian of the Liberty field hockey team has been selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the second time in her career following a record-tying performance last weekend.

Cian scored four goals in Sunday’s 11-0 Liberty win over Queens at home. The sophomore’s four goals matched a program record for goals in a single game. Her goals all came in open play and were at the 10:52, 25:54, 39:49 and 52:25 marks. Cian is one of only four players in Liberty Field Hockey history to score four times in a match.

Cian also assisted on Lizzie Hamlett’s second quarter goal, giving her nine points on the afternoon. Her nine points are tied for the second most in a game in program history.

At No. 1 Northwestern last Friday, Cian paced the squad with two shots, one of which was on goal.

Through five games, Cian is second on the team in goals (4) and tied for second in points (9). She leads the team in shots (24) and shots on goal (17). The Buenos Aires, Argentina native ranks No. 23 nationally in goals per game (0.80) and No. 28 in points per game (1.80).

Cian’s first career appearance on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll came as a freshman last season (Oct. 26, 2021).

Cian and No. 12 Liberty (3-2) will Georgetown (3-3) in their BIG EAST opener Friday afternoon in Lynchburg. Match time is 3 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
