Liberty’s Paola Bueno (women’s hammer) and Ethan Mylin (men’s javelin) each recorded their first collegiate outdoor track & field event victories, Friday at the Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational.
Bueno set her second record in as many weeks to open her outdoor campaign. After throwing a Liberty freshman-record 188-5 at last weekend’s Bob Davidson Memorial Invitational, Bueno reached a facility-record 187-7 in round two under the lights on Friday evening. That mark won the event by 12 feet over former Liberty standout Grace Artis, who had set the previous facility standard of 186-2 while representing the Lady Flames at this meet a year ago.
The Liberty junior trio of Megan Mann (172-9), Sofia Mojica (season-best 159-4) and Annika Hantho (158-1) followed in third, fourth and fifth places, respectively.
Mylin (season-best 189-4) and freshman Brady Diller (personal-best 186-11) made it a 1-2 finish for the Flames in the men’s javelin. For Diller, it marked his collegiate debut.
In the women’s javelin, the Lady Flames were paced by the heptathlon duo of Patasha Bryan (season-best 125-3) and Meredith Engle (124-7) in second and third place.
