Blair And Brewington Earn Numerous Pre-Season Magazine Accolades

10/19/2006 12:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball

Senior guard Larry Blair and junior guard Dwight Brewington of the Liberty men's basketball team have earned numerous pre-season magazine honors.

Blair, (Charlotte, N.C.) who finished second in the Big South last season in scoring at 22.6 points per game has been named to the Big South all-conference squad three times during his career including back-to-back first-team selections in 2005 and 2006. Entering this season, Blair has appeared on five publications' lists for preseason honors. Athlon Sports, Sporting News, Street & Smith's and CBS Sportsline.com all voted Blair to their Big South all-conference first team while Lindy's named him to the second team. Athlon Sports named Blair as its Big South Preseason Player of the year.

Last week it was announced that Blair was named to the Big South Conference's preseason all-conference team which was voted on by the conference's coaches, sports information directors and select members of the media. "Larry is a special talent that can score as well as anybody in the country and we walk on the floor every night with a known commodity," said head coach Randy Dunton

Brewington, (Lynn, Mass.) who has 60% hearing loss in both ears, is a transfer from Providence where he averaged 13.1 points per game as a sophomore during the 2004-05 season. He was named the Big South's Top Newcomer by Street & Smith's and CBS Sportsline.com. Brewington will not be eligible to play until the Flames' December 16 game at St. Francis (Pa.) due to NCAA transfer regulations. "You don't come with all the accolades that Dwight comes with and not be able to play the game," said Dunton.

The Flames start their exhibition season on November 4 against Barton College at the Vines Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. The Flames have their second and final exhibition game against Cedarville on November 11 with a 5 p.m. scheduled start at the Vines Center. The Flames open up the regular season at Oklahoma on November 16. Tip time is set for 8 p.m. EST.
