Big 4th Quarter Propels North Florida Past Liberty, 65-50

1/27/2020 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball

Host North Florida hit five three-pointers during a 28-point fourth quarter, pulling away from Liberty for a 65-50 victory, Monday morning before a youthful crowd of 3,231 at UNF Arena.

Liberty (11-9, 4-3 ASUN) trailed by only four points entering the fourth quarter despite a cold shooting performance (season-low 28.8 percent on 17-of-59 from the field for the game) and being uncharacteristically outrebounded (42-33 advantage for UNF).

The Ospreys (12-8, 5-2 ASUN) scorched the nets during the decisive fourth quarter, making 80 percent (8-of-10) of their field goals and 71.4 percent (5-of-7) of their three-point tries. With its third straight win, UNF takes over sole possession of third place in the ASUN standings.

Box Score Highlights
Liberty Individuals: Ashtyn Baker – 12 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals; Keyen Green – 11 points, 8 rebounds; Emily Lytle – 9 points, 3-9 3FG.

North Florida Individuals: Jazz Bond – 17 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks; Janesha Green – 12 points, 11 rebounds; Adrienne Jackson – 10 points, 19 rebounds; Tiffany Tolbert – 12 points.

Key Team Stats: North Florida finished at 41.5 percent (22-of-53) from the field and knocked down eight triples. Liberty shot well from the foul line (76.9 percent) but only got there 13 times. The Lady Flames were outrebounded for just the fourth time all season, and -9 is their worst single-game rebound margin of the year.

Turning Point
North Florida set the tone for the fourth quarter with eight straight points within the period's first 97 seconds. Jackson and Green both knocked down triples, sandwiching a Jackson steal and layup. Just like that, a four-point lead at the quarter break had tripled to 12 points (45-33) for the Ospreys.

Game Summary
First Quarter
• North Florida led by as many as 12 points (16-4) during the opening period and took a 10-point edge (16-6) into the second quarter. The Lady Flames shot just 2-of-13 from the field during the opening stanza.

Second Quarter
• Liberty battled back during the second quarter and got within five (22-17) on an Ashtyn Baker layup with 2:57 remaining. But North Florida rebuilt a nine-point advantage (28-19) by the intermission as Jazz Bond scored five of her 10 first-half points during the period. Adrienne Jackson grabbed 12 first-half rebounds for the host Ospreys, helping her team enjoy a 26-17 edge on the glass.

Third Quarter
• Liberty held the Ospreys to nine points during the third quarter and got as close as three (32-29) on Baker's layup midway through the stanza. The Lady Flames trailed 37-33 heading to the final period.

Fourth Quarter
• North Florida opened the fourth quarter on an 18-4 run, quickly extending to an 18-point advantage (55-37) when Bond hit a layup with 5:03 to play. The home team's lead remained in double digits the rest of the way.

Notes and Nuggets
• Playing her last game as a 20-year-old (her 21st birthday is on Wednesday), Baker scored in double figures for the third straight game. She also pulled down five or more rebounds for the fifth time in seven ASUN contests.

• Green scored in double figures for the eighth game in a row and moved into 15th place in program history with 1,062 career points. She also became the 15th Lady Flame ever to grab 600 career rebounds.

• Lytle's three triples matched her total from the previous seven games combined. She has now made three or more trifectas in all four career meetings with North Florida.

• Liberty and North Florida have split their four meetings during the last two seasons, with the home team winning all four matchups.

• North Florida improved to 5-1 at home this season, while Liberty lost for just the second time in its last seven road games.
