Liberty women’s basketball center Mya Berkman has been named to the ASUN Conference’s 2021-22 Winter Winners for Life team. Announced today, the team is composed of one student-athlete from each of the conference’s 12 institutions and honors those who display excellence on and off the playing surface.

The Winners for Life team honors a campus citizen that is respected as one who shares and/or demonstrates the ASUN Core Values: Education, Honesty, Student-Athlete Experience, Fairness, Health, Ambition, Respect, Diversity, Inclusion, Leadership, Responsibility, and Sportsmanship. To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must have competed in the current academic year in an ASUN sponsored sport and be in good academic standing at his/her university.

A native of Marble Falls, Texas, Berkman graduated in May 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, maintaining a 3.80 GPA during her undergraduate studies. She currently owns a 3.93 GPA as she pursues a master’s degree in accounting. She was Liberty’s first-ever ASUN Conference Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District Team® recognition.

On the court, Berkman was the leading scorer (12.3 ppg) and rebounder (7.4 rpg) for a team which tied a program record with 28 victories and won a WNIT game for the first time in program history. A first team All-ASUN performer, Berkman was named co-MVP of the Navy Classic.

Berkman ranked No. 3 nationally in field goal percentage (66.3), a mark which also ranks No. 3 in program history. She tied the Liberty Arena single-game record of 13 rebounds twice (Nov. 18 vs. James Madison and Feb. 19 vs. Stetson).

At the end of the season, Berkman ranked No. 21 in program history for scoring (920 points) and No. 13 for rebounding (643 boards).
