Barrett, Engle & Bryan Claim ASUN Weekly Honors
After recording exceptional performances during the Brant Tolsma Invitational, three Liberty indoor track & field athletes have earned ASUN Conference weekly awards. Warren Barrett and Meredith Engle swept the Men’s and Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, while Patasha Bryan was named Women’s Freshman of the Week.
This is the second career honor for all three Flames. Barrett, Engle and Bryan took home these same three accolades on Dec. 7, 2022, following the season-opening Liberty Kickoff.
A native of Montego Bay, Jamaica, Barrett won his third consecutive men’s shot put competition to begin the season. His top mark of 64-1.25 broke his own program record and took down the meet record. That effort ranks No. 10 in the NCAA this season and No. 2 in ASUN Conference history.
Engle, who hails from Dillsburg, Pa., was the Brant Tolsma Invitational pentathlon runner-up (placing first among college athletes) with a score of 3,891 which was superior to the previous meet record. She also ran a leg of Liberty’s 4 x 400 relay, which placed second in a season-best 3:51.51.
Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., native Bryan finished just behind Engle in the pentathlon standings, coming in third with a score of 3,865 points. That shattered her own Liberty freshman record, ranks No. 4 in program history and sits No. 13 in the NCAA (No. 1 among freshmen). Bryan set personal bests in four of five events, including the 60 hurdles (9.09), high jump (5-5.75), long jump (17-5.5) and 800 (2:20.10). She was later part of the Lady Flames’ runner-up 4 x 400 relay squad, which clocked a season-best 3:51.51.
Barrett, Engle and Bryan are part of a Liberty group heading to Clemson, S.C., for the Bob Pollock Invitational. The high-level meet featuring numerous ACC and SEC squads will take place Friday and Saturday at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex.
