Barbin Named ASUN Men’s Golfer of the Week
Following a fourth-place finish earlier this week at the Hamptons Intercollegiate, Liberty’s Austin Barbin has been named the ASUN Men’s Golfer of the Week.
Barbin fired an even par 216 (73-70-73) at the Loyola-Maryland hosted event, held at the Maidstone Club (par 72, 6,742 yards) in East Hampton, N.Y.
Barbin finished the event tied with fellow teammates Connor Polender (74-71-71) and Isaac Simmons (74-74-68), who was competing as an individual.
In just his second event since transferring to Liberty from Maryland, Barbin led the 72-man field in par-3 scoring (2.83 scoring average) and ranked third in par-5 scoring (4.42 scoring average).
The native of Elkton, Md., helped No. 22 Liberty to a fourth-place finished in a 12-team field, which included No. 4 Georgia Tech, No. 42 Northwestern and No. 57 Duke.
The Flames finished the event five shots off the overall lead and were one of four teams in the field to shot par or better for the tournament.
Barbin is the third Flame this fall to earn ASUN Men’s Golfer of the Week honors. Connor Polender (Sept. 9) and Kieran Vincent (Sept. 16) also took home the same weekly honors following Liberty’s first two events of the season.
