ASUN Conference Announces 2021-22 WBB Schedule
More than half of Liberty’s 2021-22 women’s basketball schedule was revealed on Tuesday, as the newly expanded ASUN Conference announced the full slate of league contests.
Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky and Jacksonville State officially joined the ASUN Conference on July 1, bringing the league membership to 12 schools.
The conference is now divided into two divisions. Liberty is part of the East Division, along with FGCU, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, North Florida and Stetson. The West Division consists of Bellarmine, Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State, Lipscomb and North Alabama.
Building the Schedule
Liberty and the other 11 ASUN women’s basketball teams will play 16 conference games apiece. Each ASUN team will face the other five teams within its own division twice (once home and once away) and will match up with the six squads from the other division once apiece.
The Lady Flames will tip off ASUN play at Stetson on Jan. 5 before returning to Liberty Arena for their ASUN home opener on Jan. 8 versus Kennesaw State.
The following ASUN teams will make their first-ever appearance at Liberty Arena this season: Kennesaw State (Jan. 8), North Florida (Jan. 12), Jacksonville State (Jan. 29) and FGCU (Feb. 24).
Liberty will match up against Jacksonville State (Jan. 29 at home) and Eastern Kentucky (Feb. 5 on the road) for the first time in program history.
The Lady Flames will make their first-ever visits to Central Arkansas’ Farris Center (Jan. 22) and Eastern Kentucky’s Alumni Coliseum (Feb. 5). The contest at the Farris Center will mark the first time Liberty has ever played a game in Arkansas.
During each of Liberty’s first three seasons in the ASUN Conference, the Lady Flames have matched up against FGCU in the ASUN Women’s Basketball Championship title game.
Liberty will travel to FGCU on Jan. 15, and the Eagles will make their inaugural visit to Liberty Arena on Feb. 24. That contest will serve as the Lady Flames’ final regular-season home game.
The Lady Flames will wrap up ASUN Conference play and their regular-season schedule with a Feb. 26 visit to Kennesaw State.
Liberty also closed out the 2019-20 regular season at Kennesaw State. Additionally, the Lady Flames’ 2020-21 season concluded at Kennesaw State, as the KSU Convocation Center played host to the 2021 ASUN Women’s Basketball Championship.
