Liberty’s women’s hammer duo of Grace Artis (fourth place, personal-best 191-11) and Naomi Mojica (sixth, season-best 180-3) performed well during the Triton Invitational’s opening event, Friday at Triton Track & Field Stadium.
As a result of Friday’s efforts, Artis and Mojica now rank 1-2 on the ASUN Conference women’s hammer performance list this season. Artis was especially impressive, recording four throws at or beyond her previous personal best of 186-2, headlined by her 191-11 effort in round one.
The 191-11 mark will put Artis in contention for her first-ever trip to the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet. Only 32 women in the East Region had recorded marks better than 191-11 in 2022 entering the weekend.
A senior from Roswell, Ga., Artis later came back to throw the discus 140-6 for 10th place in her flight.
