After winning the fifth cross country race of her collegiate career (Friday’s Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational), Liberty’s Adelyn Ackley is now a five-time ASUN Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.

Ackley, who shared today’s honor with Jacksonville’s Hayleigh Palotti, previously won the award four times as a freshman in 2019. The native of Mears, Mich., is just the fourth athlete in conference history ever to claim five or more ASUN Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week honors.

Ackley covered the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational women’s 6K course in 21:18.6 on Friday, edging teammate Calli Doan for her fifth victory in 10 career college cross country races.

Ackley’s front running helped the Liberty women’s squad open its fall 2021 season with a team title. Liberty defeated Virginia Tech by 19 points (18-37) atop the six-team women’s field.

Receiving votes in the USTFCCCA national poll, the Lady Flames will resume their season with a pair of meets on Sept. 24. Liberty’s top runners will head to Minneapolis, Minn., for the Roy Griak Invitational. The men’s 8K will begin at 11:30 a.m. Eastern, followed by the women’s 6K at 12:15 p.m.

Liberty will also send a group of runners to compete at the Queen City Invite in Charlotte, N.C. The women’s 5K is slated 4:30 p.m. and the men’s 8K will go off at 5:20 p.m.
