Liberty student-athletes Gray Betts, Ervin Chang, Calli Doan, Kasey Jamieson, Aspen Thompson and Josh Wilson have earned spots on the 2020-21 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State Team.

Every Commonwealth college and university, including NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and independents, had the opportunity to submit student-athletes to be honored. To be eligible, student-athletes were required to have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or better. The student must have achieved sophomore status, and he or she could not have been in the first season of competition at their current school.

A sophomore catcher from Raleigh, N.C., Betts owns a 4.0 GPA as an accounting major. He was a first team All-ASUN performer and a member of the ASUN All-Academic Team this past season. Betts batted .327, pacing the Flames in runs scored (56) and triples (4) as the team reached the NCAA regional final for the second time in program history.

A senior from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Chang boasts a 3.80 GPA as a sport management major. Chang was voted ASUN Men’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second time in his career and was also a second team All-ASUN performer on the links. He helped the Flames win the ASUN championship and qualify for the NCAA National Championship.

A junior from Apex, N.C., Doan owns a 4.0 GPA as an exercise science major. She was tabbed ASUN Women’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year during a season which saw the Lady Flames win their first ASUN team title and make their first NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships appearance. On the track, Doan captured ASUN titles in the indoor mile and outdoor steeplechase.

A junior from Lansing, Mich., Jamieson owns a 3.99 GPA as an exercise science major. She earned ASUN Women’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year and second team All-ASUN accolades. Jamieson led the Lady Flames in goals (7) and points (15) as they claimed their first ASUN Championship title.

A junior from San Antonio, Texas, Thompson owns a 4.0 GPA as a pre-clinical public health major. She made the ASUN Volleyball All-Academic Team and represents the volleyball squad on Liberty’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Thompson posted three straight double-digit dig matches to close out the regular season.

A sophomore from Reigate, United Kingdom, Wilson owns a 4.0 GPA as a business administration-economics major. He collected ASUN Men’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year and second team All-ASUN honors. Wilson helped the Flames claim their first ASUN Championship title and record their first-ever national ranking.
