3 Flames Selected to ASUN All-Conference Team
The Liberty Flames had three players named to the 2021 ASUN All-Conference teams, this afternoon as the ASUN Conference announced its men’s soccer awards this afternoon.
Midfielder Marko Mitrevski was selected to the ASUN All-Conference first team, while fellow midfielder Seth Clark and forward Noah Holmes were voted to the second team. In addition, Flames forward Michael Catanzarite, midfielder Gora Gora and goalkeeper Blake Franzen each were named to the 2021 ASUN All-Freshman team.
Mitrevski was selected to the ASUN All-Conference first team for the second straight season. The midfielder also was named to the 2021 Spring ASUN All-Conference first team. Mitrevski has scored three goals and two assists for eight points. The Rochester, N.Y. native was tabbed the ASUN Player of the Week for Nov. 2, after posting the first two-goal game of his career in a 4-1 victory over North Florida, this past weekend.
The junior has started 14 games and is one of five Flames who has played over 1,000 minutes, this fall. The midfielder enters the week averaging 79.1 minutes per game.
Like Mitrevski, Clark was named to the ASUN All-Conference second team for the second consecutive season. The midfielder was voted the 2021 Spring ASUN All-Conference second team. The sophomore currently leads Liberty and is second in the ASUN Conference with six assists. Clark also has scored a goal and enters the weekend with eight points.
The Darfield, New Zealand has played in all 15 Liberty contests, starting 14, and is one of five Flames to play over 1,000 minutes, averaging 70 minutes per match this fall. Earlier today, Clark was named to the 2021 ASUN All-Academic team.
Holmes receives his first selection to an ASUN All-Conference team, joining Clark on the 2021 ASUN
All-Conference second team. Holmes enters the week the Flames leader in goals with six goals and points with 14. The sophomore forward also has two assists. He is currently tied for third in the ASUN in goals and is tied for fourth in the conference in points.
In addition, the Apex, N.C., native, who has averaged 70 minutes per game, is tied for second in the conference with a 1.08 points per game average. Earlier today, Holmes was named to the 2021 ASUN All-Academic team.
Catanzarite, Franzen and Gora have all seen significant action during their freshman seasons at Liberty. Catanzarite has played in all 15 games and made five starts. The freshman forward from Syracuse, N.Y. has scored two goals and has four assists for eight points in the fall. Meanwhile, Gora Gora has played in all 15 games this fall. The Stillwater, Minn., midfielder has scored a goal and added three assists for five points.
Franzen has started six games in goal during his freshman year for Liberty. The Johannesburg, South Africa native has posted a 3-2 record with a 1.45 goals-against average and a .692 save percentage.
Central Arkansas defender Alberto Suarez was named the ASUN Player of the Year and shared Defensive Player of the Year honors with Lipscomb’s Noah Gulden. FGCU’s Gustavo Vasconcelos was selected as the ASUN Goalkeeper of the Year, while Nelson Pereira of Stetson was voted the ASUN Freshman of the Year. Central Arkansas’ Frank Kohlenstein was selected ASUN Coach of the Year.
The ASUN Men’s Soccer Championship gets underway with two quarterfinal matches on Friday. Liberty, the No. 5 seed, will square off with Stetson, the No. 4 seed, at Lipscomb Soccer Complex in Nashville, Tenn., in one of the quarterfinal matches. The winner will move on to play No. 1 seed Lipscomb on Sunday.
