Shane Pinder leads the Liberty volleyball team in defense of its Big South championship, starting Friday against Radford.
As the defending Big South champion Liberty volleyball team gears up for its conference opener, Nick Pierce of the Flames Sports Network caught up with Lady Flames head coach Shane Pinder. The Lady Flames enter conference play with a 9-4 record following four weeks of non-conference matches. Liberty wrapped up the primary portion of its non-conference slate with a 3-1 win at Georgetown on Tuesday night, hitting .352 during the contest. Pinder's team ranks first in the Big South in both hitting percentage and aces, while Loren Thomas and Caroline Douglas are rated first and second on the conference's hitting percentage list. Liberty opens its 14-match conference schedule on Friday at 7 p.m., welcoming in-state foe Radford to the Vines Center for a rematch of the 2011 Big South Volleyball Championship final, which Liberty won, 3-0. Last season, the Lady Flames downed the Highlanders, 3-2, in their conference opener, Sept. 23, 2011 at the Dedmon Center.
