As the Liberty men's and women's indoor track & field teams prepare for their second home meet of the season, the Liberty Open, Nick Pierce caught up with head coach Brant Tolsma.
Last week, most of Liberty's athletes competed at the Wake Forest Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. The men's team came away with the team championship, while the Lady Flames finished a close second to Elon. Junior team captain ConRoy Smith was one of Liberty's stars of the meet, posting times of 6.85 in the 60 and 22.05 in the 200.
The Flames will now host the Liberty Open, Friday at Saturday at the Tolsma Indoor Track Center. One of the things to watch will be the Liberty track & field debut of Walt Aikens, an All-Big South defensive back on the Flames football team. He is entered in the long jump (Saturday at 9:30 a.m.) and high jump (Saturday at 3 p.m.) this weekend.
