Liberty Downs Penn 8-1

Liberty continued to assert its dominance at home, downing Penn 8-1 on Friday night at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.

The Lady Flames (5-11) picked up their second win of the day, as they earlier down Hofstra 6-1 in the home opener. Liberty also extended its overall winning streak to four games. Penn opened its season today at the Liberty Softball Classic, going 1-1 on the day.

Notable Numbers
- Liberty scored six or more runs for the fourth straight game, the first time since 2018 that the Lady Flames have scored six or more in four consecutive contests. The Lady Flames outhit the Quakers 10-5, while Liberty committed the game's only two errors. Liberty left 10 on base while Penn stranded eight runners.

- Megan Johnson (2-3) picked up her second win, yielding one run on five hits, walking one and striking out four in six innings before Kastin Belogorska pitched a scoreless seventh.  

- Penn reliever Tabitha Dyer (0-1) drew the loss, giving up five runs on three hits in 1/3 of an inning of relief.

- Autumn Bishop batted 2-for-3 with a double, homer, four RBI and one run scored. Blake Gibson batted 2-for-4 with a double, while Kara Canetto, Blake Gibson and Gaby Ruiz all doubled and Amber Bishop homered.

- Sarah Schneider and Kayal Ketring had two hits apiece for the Quakers.  

Turning Point
- With the game tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the third, Liberty quickly loaded the bases before Emily Sweat drew a walk to give the Lady Flames the lead. Amber Bishop cleared the bases with her second career grand slam, and Gaby Ruiz added an RBI double to make it 7-1 and cap the six-run inning.

Beyond the Box Score
- Liberty tied the all-time series with Penn at 2-2, defeating the Quakers for the first time since March 12, 2002.

- Amber Bishop homered for the fourth game in a row, as she has five home runs in that span. The last time a Lady Flame homered in four straight games was March 28-30, 2007, when Dawn Jeffs did so. Amber Bishop is now tied for second in program history (Kelly Strickland - 2009-12) with 45 career homers.

- Autumn Bishop (twice) and Amber Bishop (once) have combined to hit all three of Liberty's grand slams in Liberty Softball Stadium history.

- Autumn Bishop is now tied with Sarah Robertson (2016-19) for second in program history with 50 career doubles and her 130 runs are tied with Robertson for sixth on the program's career record list. She is also tied with Beth Bennett (2006-09) for eighth all-time at Liberty with 206 career hits.  

- Madison Via entered the program's all-time top 10 in career stolen bases, as she is now tied with Meredith Crisante (2009-12) for 10th in program history with 40 career steals.

- Liberty extended its home winning streak to 14 games, outscoring opponents 66-15 during that streak which began on April 2, 2019.

Liberty has tomorrow off from competition before playing twice on Sunday at Liberty Softball Stadium. The Lady Flames will take on ECU at 2 p.m. before facing Elon at 4 p.m. to close out the weekend.
