Almborg won in doubles and singles on Sunday at the Liberty Invite.
The Liberty women's tennis squad totaled six victories on the second and final day of the Liberty Invite on Sunday at Crosswhite Athletic Club.
The Lady Flames took two of three doubles matches and won four of seven singles bouts on a day where inclement weather forced the event to be played indoors.
"This was a great tournament for us, as we learned a lot about our specific areas that need improving and also saw some great individual performances as well," stated Liberty head coach Jeff Maren. "Match play is what all tennis players need, and we got plenty of it this weekend! We look forward to the next few weeks of practice before regionals."
Liberty began the morning by winning a pair of doubles matches. The Lady Flames' Esther Lovato and Grace Hashiguchi earned a 6-4 victory over Delaware's Isabella Montana and Sara Whited. Liberty's Alexandra Almborg and Nasha Ghajar topped Navy's Danika Kahatapitiya and Kacey Moore 7-5 for their second victory as a pairing this weekend.
The tournament, which included Liberty, Navy, Delaware and Campbell, featured an unconventional shortened singles format where players were required to win four games to claim a set rather than the standard six games. Singles matches were still best two-of-three sets and included a third-set 10-point tiebreaker.
Among those Lady Flames to win in Sunday singles matches were Almborg, Hashiguchi, Lovato and Tiffany Nguyen.
Almborg finished 2-1 in singles following her 4-2, 4-2 decision over the Delaware Blue Hens' Montana. Hashiguchi, who went 2-0 in singles competition, knocked off Caragh Courtney of Delaware 5-4 (6), 4-1.
Lovato collected her second singles triumph of the weekend when she defeated Delaware's Jojo Bach 5-3, 4-5 (6), 1-0 (11-9). Nguyen also won for the second time, besting Viva Laas (Delaware) 4-0, 5-3.
Liberty's next event will be the ITA Atlantic Regional at Virginia Tech's Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va. The tournament will run from Oct. 25-29 and was last hosted by the Hokies in 2017. The Lady Flames hosted the regional in 2018.
