Thoughts From Head Coach Derek Schwandt
"We competed hard and were fully invested mentally and emotionally today. I'm excited about this group of guys and the direction we are heading. We will get back to work and get better."

How It Happened
• Miami dominated the doubles session, winning all three matches by a 6-1 score or better. Franco Aubone and Benjamin Hannestad, the ninth-ranked doubles pairing in the nation, sealed the doubles point with a 6-1 win on court over Liberty's top pairing of Nicaise Muamba and Deji Thomas-Smith.
• The Hurricanes' Aubone extended the home lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Thomas-Smith on court six. On court four, Francisco Bastias (Miami) bested Ferreira of Liberty to bring the hosts within a point of victory at 3-0.
• The match-clinching point went to Bojan Jankulovski at No. 5 singles. The Miami junior got past Flames freshman Rafael Marques Da Silva 6-3, 6-3 to push the score to 4-0.
• Liberty sophomore Josh Wilson took the first set 6-3 from Dane Dunlap, but Dunlap rallied to win the match 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. The Hurricanes led 5-0 following Dunlap's triumph.
• The Flames' Muamba and Hurricanes' Adria Soriano Barrera, the No. 63-ranked player in the country, squared off for the second straight year at No. 1 singles. A year ago, Muamba beat Soriano Barrera in straight sets (6-4, 6-3) when Soriano Barrera was the No. 21 player in the nation. This time, Soriano Barrera evened the series with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Muamba.
• The Hurricanes completed the sweep on court three, as Hannestad knocked off Burton in two sets (7-5, 6-3).
• The Flames are now 15-19 in season openers and have lost three straight, all to ACC foes. Liberty is 5-4 in season openers over the last nine years.

Next Up
• Liberty will return home for a doubleheader next Sunday against 2019 Big South regular-season champion Gardner-Webb (0-0) and North Carolina A&T (0-1). The Flames will face the Runnin' Bulldogs at noon, followed by a 5 p.m. showdown against the Aggies.
• The Flames are 9-10 all-time against Gardner-Webb and 16-0 against North Carolina A&T.
