Liberty men's tennis freshman William Barker won both his matches in singles qualifying on Thursday afternoon on day one of the ITA Atlantic Regional, hosted by Virginia Tech at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
Barker, who is now victorious in his last five singles matches, will move into the main draw to face William & Mary's Michael Ruamthong on Friday.
Barker started his afternoon with a straight-sets (6-4, 6-4) triumph against George Mason's Chanasorn Nakaurai. Later in the afternoon, Barker faced William Peden of George Washington. The Liberty freshman once again won in two sets 7-6 (3), 6-3.
Barker, who hails from Statesville, N.C., is 5-1 in singles in his first fall with the Flames.
Barker and his seven teammates will be in action on day two of the tournament, beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday. The second day of action will feature the singles round of 128, followed by the first three rounds of doubles play.
