Liberty junior Chase Burton and freshman Ian Sturgill picked up victories during the third and final day of competition, Sunday at the Silverado Invitational's Vintage Courts.

In total, the Flames won eight singles matches and a pair of doubles matches during the course of the three-day event, hosted by Oklahoma State.

"We learned a lot about the character of our team during this tournament. Our guys brought a lot of fight and showed the heart of a champion," stated Flames Head Coach Derek Schwandt. "We are excited to get back to work on our home courts this week."

Burton, who led the Flames in total singles victories with 41 over the last two years, wrapped up a 3-0 weekend to start his junior season with a three-set victory over UNLV's Jordan Sauer. Burton and Sauer each won a set 6-2 before the two competitors found themselves in a tiebreaker in the third set, knotted at six games apiece. Burton took the tiebreaker 7-2 for the 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (7-2) triumph.

Liberty freshman Ian Sturgill bounced back from a 6-1 set one loss to the Runnin' Rebels' Zach Garner in emphatic fashion, winning 12 straight games to take the match, 1-6, 6-0, 6-0. Sturgill wraps up his first tennis tournament as a Flame with a 2-0 record in singles.

Also looking to improve to 2-0 in his first fall season at Liberty, freshman Farid Juri found himself locked in a battle with UNLV's Clayton Alenik. The three-hour marathon match between Juri and Alenik went to Alenik, who pulled out the win in three sets 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4.

The Flames will be back in action when they host the Liberty University Invitational, Friday-Sunday, at the Cook Tennis Center.
