Senior defender Uriah Bentick has been named to the 2012 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division I South Atlantic Region team.
It is the third consecutive season that the defender from Port of Spain, Trinidad has been selected to the team. After being chosen to the squad's second team in 2010, he has been named to the third team each of the past two seasons.
Bentick played a key role for the 2012 Flames, who finished the year with an 8-7-3 overall record and a 6-1-3 Big South mark. After a slow start, Liberty closed its regular season with a nine-game unbeaten streak (6-0-3), the team's longest since 11-game streak (8-0-3) which spanned the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
Bentick received his third consecutive Big South All-Conference selection in 2012. He was selected to the second team this season, after earning first team honors in 2010 and 2011. Receiving a starting nod in every Liberty contest this past season, Bentick scored one goal and recorded a team-leading four assists. In addition, he helped anchor a defense which allowed 1.11 goals per game. The sport management major also earned inclusion on the Big South All-Academic squad.
