Liberty captured its 15th consecutive Big South indoor track & field team title in 2012.

Winners of 15 consecutive team titles at the Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Liberty men's squad is a unanimous selection to make it 16 this season. The Flames were picked first and the Lady Flames were a close second to Coastal Carolina in the inaugural Big South Conference preseason indoor track & field polls, as voted upon by the league's head coaches.

Head coach Brant Tolsma's men's team has been victorious at all 15 Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships ever contested. The Flames received all nine first-place votes and 81 total points from the voting panel. Charleston Southern, which tied Radford for the runner-up position in 2012, was second with 65 points. The next three teams were separated by only five total points, with High Point (58 points) ranking third, VMI (56 points) earning the fourth spot and Radford (53 points) coming in fifth.

Winthrop's 33 points put the Eagles in sixth place, while Gardner-Webb is listed seventh with 27 tallies. Campbell (eighth place, 22 points) and UNC Asheville (ninth place, 10 points) round out the men's poll.

On the women's side, Coastal Carolina earned six first-place votes and 96 total points. That put the Chanticleers two points in front of the Lady Flames, who have captured three consecutive Big South indoor crowns. Liberty garnered the other four first-place nods. Charleston Southern was voted third with 76 points, followed by High Point with 60 markers.

Fifth place for the women's teams was Gardner-Webb, which collected 51 points. Campbell and UNC Asheville shared the sixth position with 39 points apiece, while Winthrop's 37 points were good for eighth place. Commonwealth squads Radford (ninth place, 35 points) and VMI (10th place, 23 points) took the final two places.

Liberty will open the 2012-13 indoor track & field season tomorrow, when the ninth annual Liberty Kickoff begins at the Tolsma Indoor Track Center. The two-day meet will conclude Saturday afternoon.

The 2013 Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships are slated for Feb. 21-22 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
