Brye Ravettine swam a season-best time in the 100 free on Saturday.
Liberty concluded its participation at the Hokie Fall Invitational on Saturday at Christiansburg Aquatic Center, with a pair of program records being lowered. The Lady Flames finished in fifth place, scoring 331 points over three days. Virginia Tech won its home invitational with a core of 1,491.5. South Carolina totaled 804 points, good for second place, while UConn edged William & Mary for third place, 520.5 to 514. During the three-day meet, Liberty saw five program records lowered, including three by junior Emilie Kaufman. Freshman Hannah Wakeley opened Saturday's finals by swimming a program-best 17:40.40 in the 1,650 to place 16th overall. She broke her sister Bethany's previous record of 18:09.48. Kaufman clocked 2:19.12 to win the 200 breaststroke B final, breaking her own record of 2:19.46. Laura Day swam a season-best 2:23.51 to claim 14th place, and Mallorie Chambers placed 24th, at 2:43.12. Brye Ravettine qualified for the A final in the 100 free, in a season-best 51.90, and took seventh place with a 52.16 during the final. Kaufman swam 52.16 during 100 free prelims, while Marley Cripe (52.73) and Cori Gary (53.16) placed 20th and 22nd. Jess Reinhardt made the B final in the 200 fly with a season-best 2:08.15, and then swam 2:08.35 to place 15th overall in finals. Hannah Wakeley swam her season best, 2:10.19, in prelims before placing 24th overall with 2:11.17 during the finals. Emily Duff finished the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:04.96, good enough for 20th place, while Erin Curry clocked 2:07.37 for 22nd place. Liberty's A team, comprised of Ravettine, Kaufman, Chloe Thomas and Cripe, posted a time of 3:30.26 to place seventh in the 400 free relay. The Lady Flames' second relay took 13th in 3:33.73, while Liberty's C team swam 3:35.15. The Lady Flames' fall swimming season has drawn to a close. Select members of the team will next compete in the USA Swimming Winter National Championships, held Nov. 29 through Dec. 1 in Austin, Texas.
