Emilie Kaufman broke Liberty's program record in the 200 IM, Thursday.

The Liberty swimming team received several season bests, including one broken record, during day one of the 2012 Hokie Fall Invitational, hosted by Virginia Tech at Christiansburg Aquatic Center.

The Lady Flames are currently in fifth place with 139 points after one day of competition. Host Virginia Tech of the ACC leads the meet with 430 points, followed by the SEC's South Carolina with 244 points. William & Mary and UConn are tied for third place, right ahead of Liberty, at 156 points apiece.

The meet features the same event program as the 2013 CCSA Swimming and Diving Championships. However, unlike the conference championships, the Hokie Fall Invitational allows for unlimited entries, leading to multiple
relays and extra individuals scoring per school.

Liberty scored 50 points in the first event of the evening, the 200 free relay. The Lady Flames' A squad, comprised of Brye Ravettine, Cori Gary, Chloe Thomas and Marley Cripe, swam 1:35.51 to claim third place. Liberty's B relay team took 10th, in 1:38.12.

Kaufman qualified in eighth during morning prelims of the 200 individual medley, clocking 2:05.38. She then swam a program-record 2:04.35 during the A final, placing fifth and scoring 14 points. Her time of 2:04.35 broke Erin Curry's 2:04.51, set during the 2012 CCSA Championships.

Brye Ravettine swam a then season-best 23.44 to qualify for the A final in the 50 free. She then lowered that time, touching the wall in 23.29 to gain second place and 17 points. Cori Gary clocked a season-best 24.02 to earn 11th place, while Marley Cripe won the C final in 24.07, a new season best.

Liberty closed out the evening by scoring 52 points in the 400 medley relay. The A team of Emily Duff, Kaufman, Jess Reinhardt and Ravettine, placed sixth in 3:47.70. Liberty's second relay squad placed ninth, in 3:53.04.

The Lady Flames return to the pool for day two of the Hokie Fall Invitational tomorrow, with the morning session beginning at 10 a.m. Tomorrow's program begins with preliminary heats of the 400 individual medley, and the 800 freestyle relay wraps up the evening session.
