A Look at Liberty
The Liberty Flames defeated the Howard Bison in Washington, D.C., to move to 2-3 on the year and conclude a four-game road swing with a 2-2 mark, this past Wednesday. The Flames will host their second home game and first Big South Conference match of 2012 on Wednesday. Liberty, the defending Big South Champions, opened conference play with a 3-0 win at Longwood on Sept. 1.
The Flames have scored six goals on the year, with defenders and team captains Sam Duininck and Greg White leading the way with two goals each.  Midfielder Juan Niño and defender Uriah Bentick have also netted goals for Liberty. Freshman midfielder Tim Harbison has assisted on three of the Flames' markers to lead the squad.
Goalkeepers Sam Chappell and Scott Sutarik have both started in the Liberty net this season.  Chappell recorded his first college win at Howard last week and has posted a 2.00 goals-against average in three starts.  Meanwhile, Sutarik has a 1-1 mark in two starts, recording a 1.00
goals-against average.
Head Coach Jeff Alder has led the Flames to a 110-82-19 record during his 12 seasons, capturing his 100th victory in a 2-0 win at No. 10 Virginia last season. Alder's Flames posted an 11-6-3 record in 2011, en route to their second Big South Conference crown and fifth consecutive season with a double-digit win total.

All-Time Against Coastal Carolina
Wednesday evening will be the 24th meeting between Liberty and Coastal Carolina on the soccer pitch. The Chanticleers hold a 14-8-1 overall record in the all-time series. However, the two squads have split the last seven games in the series, 3-3-1.
Last year, the Chanticleers defeated the Flames, 3-1, during the regular season on Oct. 2 in Conway, S.C.  But, Liberty advanced to the 2011 Big South Championship with a 2-1 win over the No. 9 and tournament top seed Coastal Carolina on Nov. 11 in Boiling Springs, N.C.
The last time the two met in Lynchburg, the Flames defeated the Chanticleers, 1-0, on Oct. 3, 2010.  Forward Timothy Bullock scored the game's lone goal.  Bullock is the brother of current Flame Tyler.

A Look at Coastal Carolina
Coastal Carolina, ranked No. 19th nationally, begins the week with a 4-1-2 overall record and a 1-0 mark in Big South Conference play. The Chanticleers will carry a five-game unbeaten streak into Wednesday's game (3-0-2) after a 2-1 victory over Elon this past Friday.
Forward Ashton Bennett, the 2011 Big South Attacking Player of the Year, leads Coastal Carolina with four goals and 10 points. Teammates Justin Portillo and Ricky Garbanzo have each scored two goals and added six points.
Goalkeepers Scott Shewfelt and Federico Bertele have each seen action in the Chanticleer net.
Bertele has logged over 420 minutes in goal, starting four matches. The sophomore is 2-1-2 with a 0.86 goals-against average.  Shewfelt has played over 277 minutes, making three starts.  The junior has posted a 2-0 record with a 0.65 goals-against average.

During his tenure, Coastal Carolina has won seven Big South Regular Season Championships and five Big South Tournament Championships, along with seven trips to the NCAA Tournament.

Road Swing Ends
With a 3-2 victory at Howard last Wednesday, the Flames concluded a four-game road swing, their longest of the year.  Liberty went 2-2 during the span.  The Flames opened Big South play with a victory at Longwood on Sept. 1 to start the string of games away from Lynchburg.

Look Ahead
Liberty will host the Richmond Spiders in a non-conference match at the East Campus fields, next Tuesday. Match time is slated for 7 p.m. The contest will be the first meeting between the two programs in soccer since 1993.
