Dwight Brewington scored 16 points, grabbed five rebounds and blocked three shots, but it wasn't enough as the Flames (6-3) dropped their 17th-straight road game 72-66 to Buffalo, Monday night at Alumni Arena.

The scoring started quickly with Vadim Fedotov scoring in the paint 33 seconds into the game to stake Buffalo to a 2-0 lead. The Flames quickly countered on a Brewington three-point basket from the corner for a 3-2 lead with 18:59 left in the first half.

The Bulls then went on a 7-0 run to take a 9-3 lead on a lay up in the paint by Kambi Laleye with 16:44 left in the first half. Both teams traded three-point baskets as Damien Hubbard hit for the Flames followed by a make by Eric Moore. The basket by Moore gave the Bulls a 12-6 lead with 16:00 left to play in the first half.

Liberty then went on a 14-5 run, taking a 20-17 lead on a basket by Russell Monroe in the paint with 6:30 left. The remaining six minutes of the opening half saw the teams trade baskets as the Flames went into halftime with a 30-27 lead.

The Flames started off the second half on a 6-4 advantage to take a 36-31 lead on a lay up by Brewington with 18:20 left. The largest lead of night by Liberty soon disappeared as the Bulls went on a 12-6 run, capped by a Parnell Smith lay up with 13:39 left in the game.

The Bulls followed their first run with a mini 5-2 run to make it 48-42 on a Greg Gamble lay up with 10:02 left. The Flames were able to tie the game up at 54 apiece after going on a 12-6 run, capped by an Anthony Smith three-point basket from the corner with 6:11 left in the contest.

Liberty was unable to get any closer as Buffalo used a a 10-2 burst for a 64-56 lead on a three –point basket by Eric Moore with 2:16 left. In the closing minutes, the Flames tried to foul to get the ball back in the game, but the Bulls were solid from the the line. The Flames held a 10-8 advantage to in the games closing minutes, but it wasn't enough as Buffalo held on to the six-point win.

The Flames for the second game in the row came up on the short end of the free throw battle. Buffalo went to the line 30 times versus six trips for Liberty. In it last two games, opponent's attempt 61 free throw attempts compared to 10 for the Flames.

Brewington led the way for Liberty with 16 points, five rebounds, two assists and three blocks. Larry Blair moved into fourth place all-time in the Big South in scoring as he scored 14 points and dished out a game-best six assists. Smith scored 15 points and Alex McLean scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the setback. Rell Porter fouled out in only 9 minutes of action for the Flames.

The Bulls were led by Eric Moore who had a game-high 19 points, while going 4-of-10 from three-point range. Gamble collected a double-double with 15 points and 15 boards. Parnell Smith had 13 points and six rebounds, while Andy Robinson had 11 points and six rebounds.

The Bulls won the game on the boards as they out rebounded the Flames 52-31. The Flames scored more field goals than the Bulls and shot better from the floor, 28-of-65 for Liberty versus 24-of-64.

The Flames return to action on Thursday when Lipscomb comes to the Vines Center. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
