The Liberty Lady Flames used a strong performance by goalkeeper Sonia Rodriguez to remain unbeaten on the young season as they battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie with the Rider Broncos, Sunday afternoon at the Rider Campus Soccer Field.

The Lady Flames jumped out on top 1-0, just 13:51 into the contest when Amy Oberlin (Fr., D, Ada, Mich.) pounced on a loose ball on the left side of the field and blasted it home from 22 yards out for her second goal of the season.

The score remain 1-0 until Rider broke through late in the second half to even the score at 1-1.   Aileen Ascolese scored from 15 yards out off a long pass up the left side by Kelli Burke at the 76:04 mark.

Liberty then held off a furious Bronco rally at the end to hold onto the tie. Rider had a goal disallowed in the second overtime due to an off side call.

Lady Flames' netminder Rodriguez (Sr., Fairfax, N.J.) had another good outing making seven saves, while Rider's Kim Carter made three.

For the match, the Broncos out shot Liberty 16-7, including 10-3 in the second half, while also having the advantage in corners, 10-2.

"It's a little bit difficult taking positives away from this one, but it is a positive, we are still unbeaten", Liberty head coach James Price stated afterwards.  "Sonia [Rodriguez] played magnificently again today.

"Suzanne [Suzanne Edwards (So., D, Waxhaw, N.C.] played well for us in the back and Mandee [Mandee Judd (Jr., MF, Front Royal, Va.)] ran her tail off for us," added Price.

With the tie in the non-conference match, Liberty remains unbeaten at 1-0-1, while Rider moves to 0-1-1 on the season.  It is the first time since 1991 that the Lady Flames are unbeaten after their first two games of the season.

The game also marked the first time a Liberty women's soccer team played a game in the state of New Jersey.

Liberty travels to Carey, N. C. for the Summitt Hospitality Invite.  Friday night, September 2, when they will play host North Carolina State in the second match of the evening at 7:30 p.m.  On Sunday, the Lady Flames will open the afternoon squaring off with the Elon Phoenix.  Match time is scheduled for Noon.
