Four Lady Flames took part in the USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional over the weekend at Old Dominion's Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk, Va., with a doubles win highlighting the weekend. In an open doubles draw, Rebekah Jenkins and Alexandra Sheeran earned an opening round win over Virginia Tech's Katie Blow and Emily Lauten, 8-2. Next, the Liberty duo faced the No. 11 seeded Josefin Hjertquist and Daria Yakavleva of VCU, who claimed the 8-2 victory. Cameron Richard and Brittany Yang also participated in doubles, but dropped a close 8-6 match to West Virginia's Mary Chupa and Melis Tanik in the opening round. In singles, Liberty's participants posted wins in consolation rounds. Jenkins defeated Ikttesh Chahal of West Virginia in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Meanwhile, Sheeran earned a three-set victory. Facing Margarita Belyakova of Old Dominion, the Lady Flames' sophomore leveled the match by taking the second set, 6-3. Sheeran then claimed victory in the deciding set in a tie breaker. Liberty's women's tennis team will wrap up the fall tournament season next weekend, taking part in the Hokie Fall Invite, Nov. 4-6, in Blacksburg, Va.
