Just six days after snapping a 16-match road losing streak, the Liberty volleyball team picked up its second-straight triumph away from the Vines Center. Freshman middle hitter Stephanie Stow enjoyed a career-best outing, totaling 11 kills and six blocks in the Lady Flames' 3-1 (30-26, 25-30, 30-24, 30-20) win at Coastal Carolina Friday evening. Liberty, which has won four of its last six matches, is 7-13 overall. Coach Shane Pinder's Lady Flames now have sole possession of third place in the Big South standings with a 5-3 conference record. The Chanticleers, who lost their sixth-consecutive decision, are 5-19 overall and 1-7 in Big South action. Serving played a key role in the opening game. The home team committed four service errors during game one. One of those miscues ended up giving Liberty the lead for good, at 17-16. Meanwhile, Alysson Sanders (R-So., OH, Bear. Del.) served up four of the Lady Flames' five game one aces. Mary Alice Pike (Jr., RS, Durham, N.C.) provided the fifth ace on game point, wrapping up a 30-26 victory for the visitors. The Chanticleers bounced back in game two to even the match at one game apiece. Jill Nyhof posted back-to-back kills during a 3-0 burst that broke up a 20-20 deadlock. Coastal's final margin in the second game was 30-25. Autum Black (Sr., MH, Mingoville, Pa.) starred in the pivotal game three for the Lady Flames. She notched four kills during the game, including one that provided the winning point. Black also tallied consecutive kills during a 4-0 run that gave Liberty a 14-8 advantage on its way to a 30-24 win. Stow (Murrieta, Calif.) and her teammates took control of game four from the opening serve. Before the fans at Kimbel Arena knew it, Liberty held a 12-3 lead. Stow had a kill and two-consecutive block assists during that fast start. Coastal Carolina was able to trim the deficit to 21-17. Kendall Nichols (So., OH, Hoover, Ala.) then put the match away for Liberty. She recorded a solo block and two-straight kills, allowing the Lady Flames to bolster their advantage to seven. Liberty went on for a 30-20 game four victory, wrapping up its second win over the Chanticleers in 15 days. Black paced Liberty with a dozen kills and a .417 attack percentage. She also notched four block assists. Sanders filled up a lot of the stat sheet, ending the evening with 11 kills, 13 digs, four aces and a career-best six blocks (one solo, five assists). Kallie Corbin (Fr., S, Beaverton, Ore.) totaled 44 assists, 18 digs and five kills. Lara Bartolomeo (Jr., S/DS, Huntington Beach, Calif.) paced Liberty with 22 digs, going over the 300 mark for the season. Coastal's Nyhof led all players with 15 kills. Libero Brett Starbuck contributed 25 digs. Liberty recorded 12 total blocks to the Chanticleers' seven. The Lady Flames also posted eight service aces, doubling Coastal's total of four. The Lady Flames will attempt to make it three-straight conference road triumphs when they travel to Charleston Southern (5-16, 0-8 Big South). The match is set for a 6 p.m. start Saturday evening. Liberty defeated the Lady Buccaneers, 3-2 on Oct. 8 at the Vines Center.
