Ansley Gebben poses with the medal she won as the Orange County Girls Volleyball Athlete of the Year.
Ansley Gebben has kept busy since signing a national letter of intent to attend Liberty University for the 2011-12 academic year. The future Liberty volleyball player has earned a number of impressive team and individual honors, both on the volleyball hardwood and on the track. Playing alongside fellow Liberty volleyball signee Gabby Shipe, Gebben led The First Academy to its third straight Florida 2A state title. During the Royals' five-set championship match victory over Westminster Academy, Gebben led her team in both kills (18) and digs (26). Recently, Gebben was recognized as the Orange County Girls Volleyball Athlete of the Year at the Second Annual Bright House Sports Network Breakfast of Champions. At The First Academy's athletic banquet, Gebben was named the Royal Female Athlete of the Year, Most Outstanding Runner and Most Outstanding Volleyball Player. Also a standout on the oval, Gebben closed out her high school track & field career in style on Saturday at the Golden South Classic. Competing on her home track, Gebben won the meet's 400-meter hurdles title for the second straight year. Her personal-best time of 59.90 seconds ranks No. 2 in the nation for high school competitors this season and is faster than Liberty's school record of 60.57. Previously, Gebben won her fourth consecutive Florida 1A 300-meter hurdles championship. With her victory, she became only the second girls' track & field athlete from the Orlando area ever to capture four straight state titles in a single event. Gebben will join coach Shane Pinder and the Liberty volleyball team this fall, as the Lady Flames attempt to post their fifth straight 20-win season. Liberty will open the 2011 season on Aug. 26, with a match at Georgia.
