Liberty and WSET Presents Children's Miracle Network with Gift

Here to Help Kids Campaign WSET web page

In an ongoing effort to give back to the community, the Liberty men's basketball team and local ABC television affiliate WSET Channel 13 presented a special gift to the Children's Miracle Network on Thursday.

On Feb. 19, Liberty partnered with WSET and Clear Channel Radio (WROV, WYYD, WJJS, SUNNY FM and STEVE FM) during the Flames' ESPNU BracketBusters game versus Iona. For every game ticket sold, $5 went to the Children's Miracle Network's "Here to Help Kids Campaign" to support the construction of a new pediatric center at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

As a result of the joint effort, Flames head basketball coach Dale Layer, along with players John Brown, Joel Vander Pol, Antwan Burrus and David Minaya presented a check to Jack Whisler of the Children's Miracle Network for $3,365.

The total cost of the 11-bed facility is estimated at $600,000. WSET is currently seeking to raise $100,000 in order to furnish the center. Liberty Athletics' partnership with the ABC affiliate will ultimately help the station reach its goal.

"The Children's Miracle Network is deeply appreciative of the partnership between Liberty University Athletics, ABC13 and Clear Channel Radio, to raise funds for the new Pediatric Center being built at Lynchburg General Hospital," said Whislter.

"The Athletic Department donating ticket proceeds from the Bracketbuster game, and WSET-TV and Clear Channel promoting the event, is a great example of vital  components of the community coming together to help the very members of that community - in this case, our most precious resource, our children."
