Today, LibertyFlames.com's coverage of spring football practice steps away from the daily sideline reports to bring you an interview with defensive coordinator Tom Clark.

Clark is entering his sixth season at Liberty and as the lead coach of Liberty's entire defensive unit. For the first time during his half-dozen years on Liberty Mountain, Clark will also oversee Liberty's secondaries in 2011 besides his duties as defensive coordinator.

Despite leading the Big South and ranking inside Top 25 nationally in defense for the fourth time in the last five years, the Flames only had one tackler with more than 60 stops. Graduated senior linebacker Kyle O'Donnell was the lone player on Liberty's roster to rank as one of the Top 25 players in the Big South in terms of tackles per game (6.8/75 tackles).

Liberty finished the 2010 season ranked five points per game better than any other defense in the Big South and ended the season ranked No. 24 overall in the country by allowing 20.18 points per contest.

The Flames will be on the turf this afternoon at 4:15 p.m. and once again tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. LibertyFlames.com's coverage of spring practice will return to practice recaps tomorrow, providing an update on the Flames' second practice where they run 80-plus scripted plays under the observation of officials.
