Tristan Stayt tallied one of the Flames' points on the afternoon with a three-set win at No. 2 singles.
The host Campbell Camels scored the doubles point, then won four of the six singles matches en route to a 5-2 defeat of Liberty's men's tennis team on Monday afternoon in Buies Creek, N.C. The match served as the Camels home opener at the Nisbet Tennis Center. Liberty suffers its third-straight defeat to drop to 1-4 on the year, while Campbell's mark improves to 3-1. Campbell started the match by taking each of the doubles contests. Davy Sum and Dominik Kaniewski took down the Flames' No. 1 combo, Siim Tuus and Piotr Kruk, 8-4, while the hosts won the No. 2 and No. 3 by scores of 8-5. Sum defeated Tuus again in singles, knocking off the Flames' sophomore, 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot. The Flames were then able to win the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches, both in three sets. Tristan Stayt beat Larbi Lamzouri after falling behind. Lamzouri took the first set, 6-4, but Stayt rallied to win 6-3, 7-6 in the final sets to claim the victory. Giancarlo Lemmi had a similar situation, after dropping the opening set, 7-6, to Fernando Guillen. The junior concluded the comeback by winning the closing sets, 6-3, 7-5, to put up the Flames' second point of the match. However, in the fourth through sixth spots in the lineup, the Camels only allowed the Flames to win seven games and took each match in straight sets to finalize the match, 5-2 in favor of the hosts. Liberty hits the road again this Friday to compete with Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. The dual match is slated for a 2 p.m. start. Campbell 5, Liberty 2 DOUBLES: 1. Sum/Kaniewski (CU) def.
