Jennifer Klugh is currently ranked No. 3 in the nation in the women's 5K.
After getting the 2010-11 indoor track & field season off to a strong start, both the Liberty men's and women's squads are ranked in the year's first U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I Regional Index. The Flames open the year with a No. 3 ranking in the Southeast Region, while the Lady Flames check in at No. 10. Liberty, the only Big South Conference school represented in either regional listing, is buoyed by some standout individuals. Three Liberty athletes are currently ranked in the top 5 nationally in their given events. On the men's side, the Flames trail only Virginia and Clemson in the Southeast Region. Leading the way for Liberty is the redshirt senior distance duo of Josh Edmonds and Sam Chelanga. Edmonds ranks No. 3 nationally in the 5K, at 14:25.89. Meanwhile, Chelanga sits No. 4 in the nation in the mile, with a 4:03.84. Meanwhile, the Lady Flames' Jennifer Klugh played a key role in the team's No. 10 regional ranking. The junior is currently listed No. 3 in the nation in the 5K, thanks to her 17:10.91 effort at the Liberty Kickoff on Dec. 3. Liberty is now preparing for the second of three home meets on its 2010-11 ledger, the Liberty Open. The two-day meet at the Tolsma Indoor Track Center will get underway Friday at 12:30 p.m., with the pentathlon 60-meter hurdles.
