Before heading back into conference play, the Flames return to the Vines Center to host NAIA member Union College (Ky.) on Dec. 28. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
The Flames are coming off a tough off a tough last second loss to MEAC member Hampton last Tuesday. Despite leading by as much as 18 in the contest, Hampton's Kwame Morgan nailed a buzzer beating trey to hold off the visiting Flames.
Union College enters its contest against Liberty with a 6-7 record on the season. The Bulldogs were scheduled to square off with Alice Lloyd on Dec. 14, but the contest was postponed due to inclement weather. Turrell Morris leads the Bulldogs averaging 18.4 points and 10.5 rebounds per contest, followed by Ian Davis (14.3 ppg) and Cody Miller (10.1 ppg).
Liberty and Union College each have a win over NAIA member Southern Virginia this season. The Bulldogs hosted Southern Virginia on Nov. 12, defeating the Knights, 77-66. Six days later, the Flames played host to Southern Virginia, earning an 82-49 decision over the Knights.
Liberty enters its first-ever meeting with Union College touting a 19-8 all-time record against current members of the AAC. The Flames are 9-6 against Bluefield, 2-2 against Bryan, 6-0 against Montreat and 2-0 against Virginia Intermont.
