The Liberty Lady Flames recently capped off a successful first half of the 2010-11 season, finishing sixth at the Radford Highlander Invitational, Nov. 18-20. During its first season of competitive swimming at the NCAA Division I level, the Lady Flames will go into the spring with a 3-2 record.

Liberty kicked off the historic season on Oct. 2 at the LaHaye Aquatics Center, winning six events against Campbell.

The very next weekend, the Lady Flames won their first-ever dual meet at Radford, beating the Highlanders, 116.5-114.5, and the North Carolina A&T Aggies, 167-35. The Lady Flames won nine out of 11 events they entered to improve to 2-1 on the year.

Liberty returned to its home pool on Nov. 6, hosting Gardner-Webb and VMI. The Lady Flames split the event, defeating VMI (169-16), while falling to Gardner-Webb (132-73). The win over VMI marked the program's first-ever home win at the LaHaye Aquatics Center.

Liberty won five out of 11 overall events in the split, and improved to 3-2 on the year.

The Lady Flames next traveled back to Radford, Va., for the three-day Highlander Invitational. Liberty returned home with a sixth-place finish in a meet that mirrors the format of February's CCSA Conference Championship.

Several Lady Flames ended the fall ranked in the top 16 in the conference. Brye Ravettine was Liberty's best performer, as she has a No. 4 time in the 50 freestyle (24.25) and is ranked fifth in the 100 freestyle (52.62).

Bethany Wakeley sits at No. 9 in the 200 butterfly (2:11.55), and her 59.69 time in the 100 butterfly is good for a 16th-place ranking.

The relay teams also fared well this fall, as the 200 freestyle relay squad of Lindsey Romkes, Ravettine, Dani Fletcher and Sarah McCorkle is fourth in the CCSA with a time of 1:39.92, and the 400 freestyle relay team made up of the same swimmers is No. 5 (3:36.15).

The Lady Flames are back in action on Jan. 8, 2011, competing in the Florida Gulf Coast Duals in Fort Myers, Fla.
