During this week's edition of the Gridiron Glance, correspondent Nick Pierce had a chance to talk with Matt Bevins and Mike Larsson, Liberty's starting kicker and punter.

The pair of specialists are coming off solid performances at VMI on Oct. 16, which helped the Flames move to 5-2 on the season and 2-0 in Big South play.

Bevins finished the game with a season-high 11 points, as he knocked down both of his field goal attempts (25 and 42 yards) and was 5-of-5 on point-after attempts. The junior also had 11 points in a game earlier this season against Robert Morris.

The pair of field goals gave Bevins 43 career field goals, which is now tied for the program record. Daniel Whitehead first hit the mark during his four-year career at Liberty from 1991-94. Bevins already holds the Big South record for career field goals and currently ranks No. 3 in program history with 217 career points scored.

Larsson is coming off a career day against the Keydets, as he finished the game with five punts for 232 yards. He averaged 46.4 yards per punt, marking the third time in four games the junior has finished a contest with a punting averaging above 40 yards.

Despite Liberty having the second fewest total punts of any FCS team in the country, Larsson continues to remain effective.

The junior is currently averaging 40.7 yards per punt and eight of his 22 punts have pinned opponents inside their 20-yard line. Pinning opponents inside their 20-yard line is not something new for Larsson, as the junior has done so on 32 of his 79 career punts (40.5 percent).

Bevins and Larsson, along with the rest of the Flames, will begin the final stretch of the 2010 regular-season slate on Saturday. Liberty travels to Clinton, S.C, to take on Presbyterian College at Bailey Memorial Stadium in a 1:30 p.m. contest.
