Liberty has received the last two Big South Men's Golfer of the Week honors, as junior Robert Karlsson was honored last week and freshman Ian McConnell was selected as this week's honoree earlier today.

Karlsson posted a second-place finish at the Rees Jones Intercollegiate in Liberty's last team event, carding a four-over par 220 (73-74-73). The Haig Point Golf Course (Jones) played on a very difficult trek, as no player in the field of 55 finished below par.

Karlsson's second-place showing helped the Flames finished the event tied with Kennesaw State. Liberty lost the team title in a playoff, where Karlsson was the lone Liberty golfer to post a birdie on the deciding par-5, No. 18 hole.

The finish marked Karlsson's second Top 10 finish this season in three events and the 13th time in his Liberty career he has finished inside the Top 5 (out of 24 career events). His closing round one-over par 73 was tied for the best final round score.

Earlier this week, McConnell captured individual medalist honors as an individual at the Richmond Invitational, posting a seven-under par 209 (72-68-69).

McConnell, playing in his third career collegiate event, captured the title thanks to back-to-back sub-70 rounds. He was one of two golfers to accomplish this feat in the 69-man field.

The freshman won the title by two strokes over Richmond's Sam Beach, who was playing on his home course. He was one of only two golfers to break 70 during the final round during the final 18 holes of competition.

A Liberty golfer has now won the Big South's Golfer or the Week honor three out of five weeks this fall season. On Sept. 23, Preston Dembowiak received the weekly accolade, following a career outing at the Golfweek Conference Challenge.

The Flames are off to one of their best starts in program history. Liberty has finished inside the Top 3 in two out of three events this fall, while the Flames are currently ranked No. 41 in the latest Golfweek national team rankings.
