Lindsey Romkes and the Lady Flames will host Campbell in the first-ever NCAA Division I swim meet at Liberty on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Saturday marks a historic day for Liberty Athletics, as the Liberty Lady Flames 2010-11 women's swimming team will host and compete in its first-ever swim meet at the NCAA Division I level. The event, which is slated to begin at 1 p.m., is a dual meet with fellow Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) member Campbell. All Liberty home meets will be held at the LaHaye Aquatics Center. In the first competition, Head Coach Jake Shellenberger will look to his more experienced racers, Brye Ravettine, Bethany Wakeley and Lindsey Romkes, to score big points for the squad in a variety of events. The Camels placed sixth in last season's CCSA Championships after two straight years of eighth-place finishes. 13 freshmen highlight the 22-woman Campbell roster, highlighted by freshman Charlotte Cornet, a native of Brussels, Belgium. Cornet finished second in the 200 breaststroke at the Belgium Championships. Veterans looking to make an impact for Campbell are Emily Michael and Ashlyn Stumpf. Michael, a junior, had 15 top-three individual finishes as a freshman, and had a top-16 finish at the 2010 CCSA Championships in the 100 breaststroke. Stumpf, one of only two seniors, finished eighth in the 50 free at the 2010 CCSA Championships, and was also part of the sixth-place 200 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay teams. Saturday's historic meet will begin at 1 p.m. at the LaHaye Aquatics Center, and all spectators are asked to enter through the Thomas Indoor Soccer Center entrance. From there, fans will be given wristbands before being directed to the pool area.
