Ashley Bensinger was 2-for-2 with two RBIs as the Lady Flames defeated Longwood, 6-3.

The Lady Flames outhit Longwood, 11-5, to claim a 6-3 victory in Game 2, Saturday afternoon.

The Lancers won the first game of the non-conference doubleheader, 7-6, earlier in the afternoon.

Kaylee West pushed the Lady Flames to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, leading off with a solo homer over the center field fence, marking her fifth home run of the year.

With one out, Meredith Baisden singled up the middle, and scored on the next play when Ashley Bensinger ripped a single to center and advanced to second on the throw, putting the Lady Flames up, 2-0.

The Lancers scored three runs on two hits and a Liberty miscue to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the third. Brittany Matthews led off with a single to left, followed by a Kami Nuckols strikeout. Maggie Margadonna then doubled to left center, and Matthews moved to third.

The Lady Flames intentionally walked designated player Brook Short to load the bases, and Ashley Kramer drew a walk to bring in the Lancers' first run of the game.

Camille Ketsdever then hit a grounder to short, which Strickland bobbled and the ball rolled into center field. Short and Margadonna both scored on the play, but Ketsdever was thrown out trying to advance to second. Amy Betterton then grounded out to end the half-inning.

The Lady Flames tried to gain some momentum in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Bensinger drew a walk, and Jenny Law doubled down the left field line to put runners on second and third. Danielle Howard then walked to load the bases.

But no Liberty runs scored, as J'nae Jefferson hit a fielder's choice to the shortstop, who threw out Bensinger at home. Cassie Hendrix struck out swinging for the third out, and the score remained 3-2 in Longwood's favor.

Liberty regained its lead in the bottom of the fifth, scoring two runs on three hits. With one out, West doubled to left center, and pinch runner Bridgett Woods moved to third when Amber DePasquale grounded out to second. Baisden then stepped into the box and tapped a single into center field for an RBI, and Bensinger followed up with an RBI double down the left field line, putting the Lady Flames up, 4-3.

Liberty kept plugging along in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two more runs to cushion its lead.

With one out, Jefferson was hit by a pitch, and Hendrix tripled to right field to bring her home. Hendrix then crossed the plate when Strickland singled to left, giving Liberty a 6-3 edge going into the seventh inning.

The Lancers couldn't muster any offense in their last at-bat, and Liberty walked away with the 6-3 win.

With the victory, the Lady Flames improve to 33-12 on the year, and Longwood drops to 33-15.

Bensinger led Liberty, batting 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Strickland and West were each 2-for-4 with one RBI.
