Liberty's Evan Gordon has been named the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Men's Basketball University Division Rookie of the Year, as announced by the organization today.

Gordon (Fr., Indianapolis, Ind.) averaged 12.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals, while shooting 46 percent from the field and pacing the Flames with 129 made field goals. In his inaugural season at Liberty, Gordon helped guide the Flames to a 15-16 record and a 10-8 posting in conference play, earning him a spot on the Big South All-Freshman team.

Gordon's VaSID Rookie of the Year distinction marks the second-straight year a Liberty freshman has garnered the honor. Last season, Seth Curry was tabbed with the accolade, becoming the first freshman in program history to earn the award.

With his recognition, Gordon is the 14th Liberty men's basketball player ever to earn VaSID all-state honors, joining a short list that includes his father, Eric Gordon. In 1984, the elder Gordon was named to the first team of VaSID's college division.

Radford's Art Parakhouski received the Player of the Year award and was named first team all-state, while William & Mary's Tony Shaver was tabbed the Coach of the Year. Along with Gordon and Parakhouski, VMI's Austin Kenon rounded out the trio of Big South players earning all-state honors, receiving honorable mention.
