Diamondbacks Take Solbach in MLB Draft
Liberty right-hander Michael Solbach was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 48thth round of the Major League Baseball Draft Wednesday evening.
Solbach, a redshirted sophomore from Woodbridge, Va., was taken in the 48th round and was the 1429th pick overall.  The right-hander can opt for signing a contract with the Diamondbacks or elect to stay at Liberty for another year.
This past season, the pitcher posted a 7-4 mark with a 4.66 ERA, while striking out 71 and walking 25 in 85 innings.  For the second straight season, he was among the Big South Conference leaders in wins and strikeouts.
In his first season on the mound for the Flames in 2005, Solbach was among the Big South leaders as he recorded an 8-4 mark with a 4.01 ERA in a 106 1/3 innings.  In addition, he pitched five complete games, while striking out 64.
With the right-hander's selection, Liberty has now had players taken in every Major League Draft since 1999.
The draft, which held its first 20 rounds on Tuesday, concluded with the final 30 rounds on Wednesday.
