Senior Erin Hudson tied for second place with her 10-6 pole vault, Friday evening at Washington & Lee.

Liberty senior Erin Hudson shared second place in the women's pole vault Friday evening, highlighting the Flames' day at the Washington & Lee Track & Field Carnival.

Hudson (Whitacre, Va.) cleared 10-6 for the third straight meet and was one of four competitors to make it over that height on Friday. She improved from her fourth-place showing at the same meet in 2009.

Christina Mitchell (So., Monroe, Va.) was the other Lady Flame to place in the top 10, courtesy of a 91-10 heave in the javelin. She finished seventh out of 22 entrants in the event.

On the men's side, two Flames notched top five finishes during Friday's action, including freshman Cameron French (Culpeper, Va.). He hopped, skipped and jumped his way to fourth place in the men's triple jump, stretching the measuring tape to 42-11.

For the second year in a row, sophomore Kyle Powers (Waterford, Vt.) crossed the line in fifth place in the Washington & Lee Track & Field Carnival steeplechase final. His official time on Friday was a new personal best, 9:39.76.

The Washington & Lee Track & Field Carnival will resume Saturday at 10 a.m. The first events to get underway will be the decathlon 110-meter hurdles, heptathlon long jump, men's long jump, women's shot put and women's high jump.
